National weather roundup -- Sunday, November 4, 2007
Wind comes whipping down the Plains � A storm system will swing down from the northern Rockies into the northern Plains today. It won't have much moisture to work with, so precipitation will be limited. However, it will be a windy system and wind watches and advisories are already posted from Montana through Michigan's Upper Peninsula today and tomorrow.

First snow of the season -- By the time the storm gets into the Great Lakes on Monday, moisture will be provided by the relatively warmer lake waters. A winter storm watch is in effect for Michigan's Upper Peninsula, where more than 10 inches of lake-effect snow will be possible from Monday night through Tuesday night for favored locations downwind of Lake Superior.

Noel fades away � Hurricane Noel will move through the Canadian Maritimes today, having less and less of an effect on Maine as it heads northward and weakens.

Trouble in paradise -- There is also the possibility for a pretty good storm to affect Hawaii tonight through Tuesday. A flash flood watch is in effect for the entire state and snow will be possible on Mauna Kea and Mauna Loa.

Fire weather � Red flag fire warnings are in place today for much of Florida as well as for the mountains of Los Angeles and Ventura Counties in Southern California. Grassland fire danger is extreme from western North Dakota through western Nebraska.
