louisiana high school athletic association

Cox Sports Television will host the Louisiana High School Athletic Association/State Farm Football Pairings Show at 6 p.m. today.

Dennis McCain and Rob Musemeche will unveil the 32-team brackets for the Louisiana High School Athletic Association's football playoffs in all five classifications.

The one-hour live show will feature interviews with coaches from the LHSAA's pairings meeting earlier in the day, as well as analysis and information on the teams.

The pairings show will be replayed at 11 p.m. and again at 8 p.m. Tuesday.


Rebels playoff bound

Central Private School (8-2) claimed its second straight Mississippi Private School Association football playoff berth.

The Rebels' first-round MPSA Class 2A opponent will be district rival Centreville Academy (9-2).

Game time is set for 7 p.m. in Centreville. The first time the two teams played, Centreville, the 5-2A champion, won 36-6 on Sept. 14.


Baker reunion

A reunion for Baker High School athletes who played between 1946-50 is planned for at 11 a.m. Dec. 1 at Sammy's Grill located at Highway 64 and Highway 964.

The Buffaloes won five state titles during that period, all of which were coached by the late Perry Angle.


Jamboree schedules

The Advocate needs basketball and soccer coaches to fax or e-mail in their jamboree schedules as soon as possible.

Mascot Challenge winners

Chase Tassin, Central High's Willy the Wildcat, is the winner of the Capital One High School Mascot Challenge for Baton Rouge, claiming $5,000 for his school's athletic program.

The Dunham School's Andrew Alexander (Trafton the Tiger) placed second and garnered $2,500.
